Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School, in 1992 began her studies in marine biology. Bossard began her career working in the commercial seafood sector in 1999. That year, she worked on Murat Aritan's 65 foot halibut vessel, later transformed into a fishing tender. Bossard who is engaged to Aritan she has joined alliance to gain access to their businesses. Both are advocates of preserving sustainable and renewable sources of seafood. Otolith opened its direct market wholesale distributor in Philadelphia when Bossard returned from living back home with her two daughters, Bella 3 years old and Andre 1year old, and Andre 1, to Philadelphia. The name Otolith serves as an affectionate memory of Bossard's deep knowledge about fish biology and her husband's vast connections to the business of fishing. They are often separated for up to 5 months in a row while they strive to achieve sustainable and financial goals that show their determination and autonomy wherever they are. Bossard with her son Andre 10 and Isabella 12 return every year in Southeast Alaska as deckhands to harvest wild salmon during summer. For two months, Bossard and Isabella use hooks & lines to hunt for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their seafood for processing locally.
